Solar Eclipse 8 April 2024

On 8 April 2024, at 18:17 UT, there will be a total solar eclipse. The duration of the maximum eclipse will be 4 min 28 sec, the global duration 5 hours 10 minutes. The totality of the eclipse will be visible in North America, beginning at the Pacific coast, then ascending through Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The eclipse will be partially visible in Norway, Iceland, Ireland, western parts of Great Britain, north-west parts of Spain and Portugal, the Azores, and Canary Islands, and in all Central American countries, as well as northern Colombia.

This eclipse is the third of three notable solar eclipses which can be seen from within the USA. The eclipse follows the ’Great American‘ Eclipse’ of August 2017 (see my article, here) the annular solar eclipse of October 2023 (see my article, here) and is known as the ‘Great North-American Eclipse‘.

The chart, cast for Houston, Texas, shows the event:

Before we will discuss any possible effects on the individual, we have a look at the mundane astrological implications of this eclipse. To be able to do this, we need to establish where the eclipse is likely to have its greatest effect. For this purpose we need to look at the countries falling under the rulership of Aries, the sign wherein the eclipsed Sun resides during the event. We also have to take into consideration that the eclipse’s visibility will greatly enhance its effect. Looking through traditional source material, we find that, according to William Lilly, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Burgundy, France, England, Denmark, Upper Silesia (a historical region of Central Europe that lies mostly within Poland, with small parts in the Czech Republic and Germany), Judea (now part of Palestine and Israel), and Syria are the locations traditionally thought to fall under the rulership of Aries.

Next, we have a look at a map showing the path of total visibility, which stretches right across the USA.

The map below shows the eclipse’s path of angularity:

What becomes apparent is the fact that France, which falls under the rulership of Aries, has the eclipse point tightly conjunct the Midheaven, suggesting a strong impact. Also, people in the USA and Mexico are likely to be particularly affected by this eclipse.

The Sun is placed in the second decanate of Aries, ruled by the Sun. Therefore we have to look at Mars as eclipse ruler. William Lilly writes in his Annus Tenebrous, that this placement:

… brings some King, Prince, or eminent officer to Prison or restraint of Liberty, it adds sorrow and danger of Death onto him, destruction of bearing fruit trees, and it portends to the rottenness or putrefaction of such things as the earth produces, whereby both man and beast are afflicted”.

Lilly also writes that Mars as sole eclipse ruler stirs up wars, seditions, and tumults. In some cases, it can indicate the onset of acute diseases, infirmities by breaking or stretching the veins. He states that the rulership of Mars inclines rulers and influential people unto tyranny, violence, injuries, and injustice. There is also the possibility of sudden storms, and violent shipwrecks. This eclipse can also excite men’s minds to great rashness and fool-hardiness.

In the recent past, there were two solar eclipses in 19* Aries. The first one was in April 1986 and the second took place in April 2005. People with natal placements in or around 19* Aries, who had noteworthy experiences in 2005 or 1986 may expect similar events to happen.

Generally speaking, an eclipse usually affects only a small number of people. To establish the possibility of any effect to take place, the birth chart should be scrutinised for any of the following:

  • Sun or Moon are in or around 19* Aries, or around 19* Libra
  • Sun or Moon are in or around 19* Cancer or 19* Capricorn (square)
  • 19* Aries is culminating in the birth chart (conjunct Midheaven)
  • 19* Aries is ascending in the birth chart (conjunct Ascendant)

Should it be the case that one or even more of these factors apply, an in-depth reading of the birth chart may be necessary to find out if, how, and to what extent the native could be affected.

(Peter Apian, “Astronomicum Caesareum”, Ingolstadt, 1540)

Partial Lunar Eclipse 28 October 2023

There will be a partial lunar eclipse on 28 October 2023. It will be visible in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, much of South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic, and Antarctica.

The full eclipse begins at 18:02UT and lasts until 22:26UT. Maximum eclipse (Moon opposing Sun) takes place at 20:14UT.  The duration of the partial eclipse is 77 minutes.

The map below shows the visibility of the eclipse:

The chart below, cast for Tehran, capital of Iran, shows the event in astrological terms:

Before we will discuss any possible effects on the individual, we have a look at the mundane astrological implications of this lunar eclipse. To be able to do this, we need to establish where the eclipse is likely to have its greatest effect. For this purpose we need to look at the countries or cities falling under the rulership of Taurus, the sign wherein the eclipse Moon resides during the event. We also have to take into consideration that the eclipse’s visibility will greatly enhance its effect.

The map above shows the paths of angularity for Sun (red) and Moon (black):

What is particularly poignant is the fact that the eclipse’s line of angularity, showing the conjunction between the Midheaven and the eclipsed Moon is very close to Tehran, the capital of Iran. This is also visible in the astrological chart for the time of the lunar eclipse, above.

Looking through traditional source material, we find that, Arabia, Persia, Egypt (possibly the fertile delta region), the Kyklades Islands (southeast of Greece), Cyprus, the coast of Asia Minor, greater Polonia (Poland), northern Sweden, Russia, Ireland, Switzerland, Lorraine, and Campania, are the locations traditionally thought to fall under the rulership of Taurus.

From the above, it is noticeable that Iran (to traditional astrologers it was known as Persia) which is on the path of this lunar eclipse, is traditionally ruled by Taurus. This makes it highly likely that some eclipse related events will occur there. Adding to this is the fact that The eclipse Moon is conjunct fixed star Sheratan. In general star lore, it is said that fixed star Sheratan is of the nature of Mars and Saturn, causing injuries, defeat, or destruction by fire, war, or earthquake. Elsbeth Ebertin writes that she found that World War I soldiers who had this fixed star in prominent position in their birth charts, were acting in particularly bold and daring ways.

Eclipses in Taurus usually affect business, trade, agriculture, as well as solicitors and agents who negotiate in other people’s affairs. William Lilly writes in his Annus Tenebrosus a lunar eclipse in the first Decanate of Taurus signifies that:

” … household Cattle are tormented with several unusual diseases, i.e. the oxen and horses of the Ploughman fall sick and dye, and the generall disease reigns amongst Cattell.”

Venus, who, together with Mercury is eclipse ruler, indicates a time of elegance and abundance, with friendly relations between governments.

If we put all of this together, we can assume that there may be agricultural problems as well as problems with livestock ahead for Iran. The conjunction between the eclipsed Moon and fixed star Sheratan also adds the energies of Saturn and Mars, the Greater and Lesser Malefic, to the mix. This suggests to me the possibility that the friendly relations between governments that were mentioned above, may refer to those between Iran and Palestine. We know that Iran and Hamas have been long time allies and it will remain to be seen how things will develop in the Middle East. Out of the darkness every eclipse represents, a bitter truth may emerge at a future point. Further complications may arise, due to the fact that the eclipse is also angular in Saudi Arabia. Recently, there have been reports in the news that Saudi Arabia was close to entering a historic strategic partnership with Israel, but this may become more questionable after the recent events in Israel.

For those particularly interested in mundane astrology, I add the charts of the current Sun’s Aries Ingress for Iran, and the foundation chart for the Iran Islamic Republic.

What does spring to mind immediately is the conjunction between the eclipse point and the lunar nodal axis in the ingress chart, above. Also noteworthy is the tight conjunction between the eclipse Moon and Solar Ingress Venus, reiterating the fact that Venus is also eclipse ruler. The ingress chart’s lunar nodal axis is also conjunct the Sun/Moon opposition, which suggests drastic events to follow.

On a personal level, an eclipse usually affects only a small number of people. To establish the possibility of any effect to take place, the birth chart should be scrutinized for any of the following:

  • Moon is in or around 5* Taurus
  • Moon is in or around 5* Scorpio (opposition)
  • 5* Taurus is culminating in the birth chart (conjunct Midheaven)
  • 5* Taurus is ascending in the birth chart (conjunct Ascendant)

Should it be the case that one or even more of these factors apply, an in-depth reading of the birth chart may be necessary to find out if, how and to what extent the native could be affected.

Appulse Lunar Eclipse 5 June 2020

There will be a partial lunar eclipse on 5 June 2020. Regions seeing, at least, some parts of the eclipse will be most of Europe, most of Asia, Australia, Africa, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Antarctica.

The Moon will start to enter Earth’s shadow at 17:45UT and the maximum partial eclipse will occur at 19:25UT. The entire eclipse will last for about 3 hours 18 minutes, ending at 21:03UT. The map below shows the visibility of the eclipse:

The chart below, cast for London, shows the event:

Before we are going to discuss any possible effects on the individual, we should have a look at the mundane astrological implications of this eclipse. To be able to do this, we need to establish where the eclipse is likely to have its greatest effect. For this purpose we need to look at the countries or cities falling under the rulership of Sagittarius, the sign wherein the eclipse Moon resides during the event. We also have to take into consideration that the eclipse’s visibility will greatly enhance its effect.

Looking through traditional astrological source material, we find that Greece (and there particularly Attica), Arabia, France (particularly Avignon), Hungary (particularly Budapest), Germany (particularly Cologne, Meissen, Judenburg, Rottenburg, Stuttgart), Italy (particularly Colonia, Volterra), Yugoslavia (particularly Dalmatia, Modena), Croatia, Gascovia in the Basque region, Czechoslovakia (particularly Moravia), Sclavonia (around Bulgaria), and Spain (particularly Toledo) may be affected.

The map above shows the paths of angularity for Sun (red) and Moon (black)

From the above, it is noticeable that Spain, France and Germany are not only falling under the rulership of Sagittarius, but that they are also on the path of this lunar eclipse. This makes it more likely that some eclipse related events may occur. Also, with the eclipsed Moon located close to the Ascendant, it is likely that any eclipse related event will occur very soon after the actual date of the eclipse.

According to Ptolemy, this eclipse, being in a four-footed, common, fire sign, close to the Ascendant, suggests an effect on four-footed dumb animals, humans, kings, but also crops, youth, and foundations. The Moon is placed in Sagittarius’ first decanate, which is also ruled by the Moon. According to William Lilly’s Annus Tenebrosus, an eclipsed Moon in the first decanate of Sagittarius indicates:

“Dieseases rage against and amongst Horses, Mules &c. The Seas troubled with Pyrats”

With Jupiter being eclipse ruler, we can also look to William Lilly, who wrote about Jupiter being eclipse ruler:

“When Jupiter alone has the chiefest Dominion in an Eclips, generally he products an increase of all things. […]

This is well and good but the problem, as far as I can see it, is that Jupiter is in his fall in Capricorn. This greatly debilitates him and also puts him under the rulership of Saturn, the Greater Malefic. Also, we notice that Jupiter is conjunct fixed star Terebellum. Robson writes in his Fixed Stars and Constellations about Terebellum that:

“It gives a fortune but with regret and disgrace, cunning, a mercenary nature and repulsiveness.”

There is also a tight square between both eclipse points and Mars, the Lesser Malefic. Furthermore Mars is in mixed reception with Jupiter, being his exaltation ruler in Pisces, in the 3rd house. Together with what has been said above, this could be interpreted in the way that matters are generally improving but also that care has to be taken not to get too overexcited.

In mundane astrology, the Moon signifies the common people, whereas the Sun, due to the eclipse being in opposition to the Moon, represents the Prime Minister and all people in authority. Mars, who signifies strikes, conflicts and opposition forces, is squaring both the eclipsed Moon and the Sun, which makes the resulting scenario self-explanatory.

On a personal level, an eclipse usually affects only a small number of people. To establish the possibility of any effect to take place, the birth chart should be scrutinized for any of the following:

  • Moon is in or around 15 Sagittarius
  • Moon is in or around 15 Gemini (opposition)
  • 15 Gemini is culminating in the birth chart (conjunct Midheaven)
  • 15 Gemini is ascending in the birth chart (conjunct Ascendant)

Should it be the case that one or even more of these factors apply, an in-depth reading of the birth chart may be necessary to find out if, how and to what extent the native could be affected.

The ‘Great American’ Total Solar Eclipse, 21 August 2017, Including a Case Study

On 21 August 2017, at 18:30 UT, there will be a total solar eclipse. This eclipse, already known as the ‘Great American Eclipse‘, will be visible in its totality all across the USA from the East Coast to the West Coast. In the surrounding areas, people will see a partial solar eclipse. The partial eclipse will also be visible in Western Europe, North-East Asia, North-West Africa, much of South America, the Pacific, the Atlantic and the Arctic. This eclipse is one of Saros Series 145. Its totality has a duration of  2 minutes and 40 seconds. The map below shows the visibility of the eclipse (time observed is UT):

The astrological chart, cast for Washington, also shows the event:

Before we will discuss any possible effects on the individual, we have a look at the mundane astrological implications of this eclipse. To be able to do this, we need to establish where the eclipse is likely to have its greatest effect. For this purpose we need to look at the countries or cities falling under the rulership of Leo, the sign wherein the eclipse Sun resides during the event. We also have to take into consideration that the eclipse’s visibility will greatly enhance its effect. In this case we are expecting the USA to be greatly affected.

Looking through traditional source material, we find that the Alps, Austria (especially Linz), Belgium (especially Ghent),Italy (especially Rome, Sicily, Puglia and Ravenna), Bohemia, Czech Republic(especially Prague), Germany (especially Koblenz), England (especially Bristol), Turkey, and Syria (especially Damascus) are the locations traditionally thought to fall under the rulership of Leo.

The Sun is placed in the last decanate of Leo, which is ruled by Mars. Traditionally, the lights were not interpreted as eclipse rulers, therefore we have to look at Mars as eclipse ruler and also at Leo, the sign the eclipsed Sun is in. Generally speaking, eclipses in Leo signify:

“death or misfortune for royalty, nobility and ‘persons of quality’; the ruination and destruction of ancient buildings, palaces and churches; division amongst the clergy, the besieging of towns, and a scarcity of horses and grain”.

William Lilly writes in his Annus Tenebrous, that a solar eclipse in the last decant of Leo:

“… presages Captivity, besieging of Towns, Plunderings, Profanation of holy places, a scarcity of Horses, or a destructive Murrain amongst them.”

divider

It is useful to know that the last time a solar eclipse occurred in 29* Leo was in 1998. It may be of merit to expect and prepare for a repeat of some of the personal experiences that occurred back in 1998. Although an eclipse usually affects only a small number of people, it may be beneficial to try to remember if any problems occurred during this year. If so, but also to generally establish the possibility of any effect that could take place, the birth chart should be scrutinised for any of the following:

Sun or Moon are in or around 29 Leo
Sun or Moon are in or around 29 Aquarius (opposition)

Sun or Moon are in or around 29 Taurus or Scorpio (square)
29 Leo is culminating in the birth chart (conjunct Midheaven)
29 Leo is ascending in the birth chart (conjunct Ascendant)
Should it be the case that one or even more of these factors apply, an in-depth reading of the birth chart may be necessary to find out if, how and to what extent the native could be affected.

For the first time on this web log, I am publishing the Solar Eclipse Case Study of a person who is likely to be affected by the upcoming solar eclipse:

(Inner Wheel: Solar Eclipse/Outer Wheel: nativity)

From the bi-wheel above, we can see that the eclipse point is very close to the natal Ascendant and to natal Mars, which indicates that the native is likely to experience the effects of this solar eclipse in a strong and immediate fashion.

(Inner Wheel: Nativity/Outer Wheel: Solar Return 2017)

We have already described the general effects of this eclipse, but to find out in detail how this could manifest on a personal level, we have to look at other indicators. Using the native’s solar return chart for 2017, we find that solar return Saturn is conjunct the native’s Moon. According to William Lilly, this indicates:

“Danger of Death, full of ill Humours, Melancholy, …” (CA, p738)*

We can also see that his solar return Mars is conjunct natal Mercury. Lilly writes that this aspect:

“Inclines to lying, to speak ill of men, and [he] shall be in danger for words” (CA, p739)

(Primary Direction: Ascendant square Venus)

During August, the native may also feel the effect of primary directed Ascendant square Venus. Lilly knows that, in some cases,:

“It signifies some infirmness in the Body, obtained by a Surfeit, or too frequent use of venery … he is slighted by the virtuous, the dishonest have no Bridle …” (CA, p662)

This point is very close to the fixed stars pi Scorpius and Dschubba (delta Scorpius) on the right claw and the forehead of the Scorpion. Robson knows that Dschubba is:

“of the nature of Mars and Saturn. … It causes sudden assaults, malevolence, immorality and shamelessness.” (Fixed Stars and Constellations, p172)**

(Inner Wheel: Nativity/Outer Wheel: Solar Eclipse)

Returning to the bi-wheel of the nativity and the solar eclipse, we can also see that eclipse Saturn is conjunct natal Moon and natal Dragon’s Tail. This is a sign of depression. People who are living through this transit often report that they aren’t able to cope with everyday life any longer.

These conjunctions are close to the MC of the Sun’s Aries Ingress chart 2017, cast for Washington. This means that eclipse Saturn and the native’s Moon/South Node are in the 10th house of the Aries Ingress 2017 for the USA. In mundane astrology, the 10th house represents the ruler, president or government of the country the chart is cast for.

Ingress Saturn and Moon are also in the 10th house, whereby Saturn indicates the possibility of public sorrow and disappointment, even state funerals. The Moon in mundane astrology represents the common people and shows where the public’s attention will fall.

From the above, it can clearly be seen that this native’s fate is intrinsically linked with the fate of the whole nation. This is not surprising, as I can reveal now that this case study is based on the birth chart of Donald Trump, the current President of the United States of America.

Aries Ingress of the Sun 2016 for UK and USA

On  20 March 2016 at 4:30 UT the Sun will be in 00*00’ Aries. Traditional astrology states that a chart cast for the capital of a nation at the time the Sun enters Aries provides a detailed picture of the events occurring during the year or at least part of the year to follow. The ancients called this the Revolution of the Year of the World, but it is also known as the solar ingress.

As ingress charts are location specific, I will give a separate analysis of the 2016 solar ingress chart for Britain and the EU, followed by the ingress chart of the Unites States of America.

2016 Solar Ingress for the United Kingdom

Aries Ingress London 2016

Shown above is the Aries ingress chart, cast for London, representing the United Kingdom. With a fixed sign rising, this chart will be valid for the whole solar year, until the Sun’s Aries ingress in 2017.

From the chart above, we can see that Mars will be the Lord of the Year. He is Lord of the 9th house, and is prominently positioned near the 10th house cusp (MC). Generally speaking, this suggests that the main themes during this solar year will be matters concerning conflicts, arguments and divisions. Bonatti writes that Mars in the 10th house:

“… signifies wars and contentions over matters which do not belong to those who seek them, nor pertain to them” (BoA p951)*.

In the light of the British prime minister’s recent negotiations with leaders within the European Union and the prospect of a referendum on 23 June, possibly resulting in Britain’s exit from the EU (the  so called “Brexit”), Bonatti’s delineations seems to be ominously succinct. We have to keep in mind also,

“that by the Lord of the Year is known the condition of the whole nation, people, and indeed everything therein in a general way…” (AR p344)**.

Mars’ domicile in the 9th house and his conjunction with the medium coeli do suggest that the future of Britain’s economy will truly be on everybody’s mind. This shows that the two camps, arguing for or against a Brexit, will push their agenda religiously, if not fanatically. Looking at the state of Mercury, natural significator of the economy, we can see that potential danger is lurking here (Mercury, under the sunbeams, is essentially debilitated by detriment and fall).

A quick look at the Aries ingress chart for Brussels, representative for the European Union,  shows that, at face value, it is identical to the ingress chart for the UK. Aquarius is rising here too, and therefore both charts are valid for one year. A closer look reveals though, that, unlike in the case of the UK,  the ruler of the year for the EU is the Moon, natural significator of the common people, or the collective of the many. This can be interpreted as a first sign of the eventual rift between the EU and the UK. Aggressively, Mars (Lord of the Year for the UK) tries to break away from the EU, symbolised by the Moon.

2016 Solar Ingress for the United States of America

Aries Ingress Wash 2016

Shown above is the Aries ingress chart, cast for Washington and therefore representative for the United States of America. With a mutable sign rising, this chart is valid for six months and the Libra ingress chart will have to be taken into account thereafter.

During this year, much attention will be paid to the election campaign which will result in the US Presidential Elections, held on 8 November. We have to carefully distinguish between the election campaign, which is reflected in this chart, and the actual election itself, which will take place after the Sun’s ingress into Libra. The Libra ingress chart will have to be consulted to judge who will win the election and become president.

From the chart above, we can see that Mars will be Lord of the Revolution, which gives a first indication of what can be expected from the election campaign. Bonatti writes about Mars being Lord of the Revolution in the 1st house, that:

“… it signifies something horrible (and sorrow and fears, and contrarieties and contentions) is going to come to men …” (BoA p948)

Below is the chart of the Libra ingress, cast for Washington, valid from 22 September 2016.

LIbra Ingress 2016

From a first glance at the Libra ingress chart, it looks to me as if the Democrats should be able to secure another victory. A detailed analysis of the ingress cart and a prediction of the outcome of the presidential election will be posted on my web log at a later date.

2016 An Astrological Preview

This is a general overview of astrological events occurring during the year 2016. Some of the events mentioned below may affect us globally or nationwide, whilst others may only affect us on an individual basis. For details about the nature, strength or duration of any effect that may take place, inception charts as well as natal charts of people in charge of the countries in question will also have to be taken into consideration. For events affecting the native on a personal level, natal-, solar return and other charts will have to be consulted. This should achieve an accurate judgment of the level of influence. In this astrological preview, the following information can be found:

Retrograde motion of the planets

Noteworthy sign ingresses and transits

Other noteworthy phenomena (Solstices, Equinoxes, Super Moons)

Solar and lunar eclipses

Solar ingress charts

Retrograde Motion

Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will be retrograde at times during 2016.

Mercury Rx

will delight us, as usual, with interrupted communication, malfunction or complete failure of computers and other electronic devices and general uncertainty and confusion concerning any contracts, legal documents or agreements.

Mercury will be retrograde in  Aquarius/Capricorn between  6 January and 25 January, in Taurus between 29 April and 22 May, in Virgo between  31 August and 22 September, and in Capricorn/Sagittarius between 20 December and 8 January 2017.

Mars Rx

will bring a reduction of energy levels and new plans or projects will most likely be put on the back burner. Accidents and health problems are likely to affect natives who have Mars Rx transits to prominent planetary placements in the appropriate house of their birth chart.

Mars will be retrograde in Sagittarius/Scorpio between 18 April and 29 June.

Jupiter Rx

will remind us of his prudent side; with Jupiter’s help we are able to fulfil our potential but in his Rx phase, he demands that we obey the rules, follow our moral guidelines and show kindness and compassion.

Jupiter will be retrograde in Virgo between 9 January and 9 May. Retrograde Jupiter in Virgo brings a sober note to our search for inner truth. In this introspective time, we may realise that vanity, negligence and suppression of our emotional life are not helpful if we want to find our true self.

Saturn Rx

in Sagittarius will give us a chance to re-evaluate what has become static and dogmatic in the past. It is likely that any unfinished but forgotten business will make an unexpected reappearance during this time, reminding us to bring old issues to a close.

Saturn will be retrograde between 26 March and 13 August.

Solar and Lunar Eclipses

Solar Eclipses

Total solar eclipse on 9 March in 18* 56’ Pisces. This eclipse may be of immediate importance to Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. With Jupiter being eclipse ruler, countries falling under the planet’s rulership will have to be taken into consideration, too.

An eclipse usually affects only a small number of people. To establish the possibility of any effect to take place, the birth chart should be scrutinized for any of the following:

  • Sun or Moon are in or around 19* Pisces
  • Sun or Moon are in or around 19* Virgo (opposition)
  • Sun or Moon are in or around 19* Gemini or Sagittarius (square)
  • 19* Pisces is culminating in the birth chart (conjunct Midheaven)
  • 19* Pisces is ascending in the birth chart (conjunct Ascendant)

Should it be the case that one or even more of these factors apply, an in-depth reading of the birth chart may be necessary to find out if, how and to what extent the native could be affected.

divider

Annular solar eclipse on 1 September in 9*21’ Virgo. This eclipse may be of immediate importance to Brasil. Russia, Turkey, Irak and Saudi Arabia are likely to be affected at a later date. With Mercury being eclipse ruler, countries falling under the planet’s rulership will have to be taken into consideration, too.

To establish the possibility of any effect to take place, the birth chart should be scrutinized for any of the following:

  • Sun or Moon are in or around 9* Virgo
  • Sun or Moon are in or around 9* Pisces (opposition)
  • Sun or Moon are in or around 9* Sagittarius or Gemini (square)
  • 9* Virgo is culminating in the birth chart (conjunct Midheaven)
  • 9* Virgo is ascending in the birth chart (conjunct Ascendant)

Lunar Eclipses

Appulse lunar eclipse on 23 March, Moon in 3*17’ Libra, Sun in 3*17’ Aries. This eclipse may turn out to be of immediate importance to Russia and China. With Venus being eclipse ruler, countries falling under the planet’s rulership will have to be taken into consideration, too.

People with Libra or Aries rising, either in their birth chart or in their Solar Revolution for 2016, could be more affected than others. Furthermore it should be investigated if natal Sun or Moon are conjunct the eclipse point. If it should be the case that one or even more of these factors apply, an in-depth reading of the native’s charts may be necessary to find out which particular areas of life are likely to be affected the most.

divider

Appulse lunar eclipse on 16 September, Moon in 24*20’ Virgo, Sun in 24*20’ Pisces. This eclipse may turn out to be of immediate importance to Senegal, Mauritania and the Canary Islands. Russia, Kazakhstan, India and Pakistan may be affected at a later date. With Jupiter being eclipse ruler, countries falling under the planet’s rulership will have to be taken into consideration, too.

People with Virgo or Pisces rising, either in their birth chart or in their Solar Revolution for 2016, could be more affected than others. Furthermore it should be investigated if natal Sun or Moon are conjunct the eclipse point.

During this year, much attention will be paid to the election campaign which will result in the US Presidential Elections, held on 8 November. From the chart above, we can see that Mars will be Lord of the Revolution, which gives a first indication of what is to come.  Bonatti writes about Mars being Lord of the Revolution in the 1st house, that:

“… it signifies something horrible (and sorrow and fears, and contrarieties and contentions) is going to come to men …” (BoA p948)

A detailed analysis of the Aries and the Libra ingress charts for the United States, including a prediction regarding the next US president, will be posted on my web log in due course.

2016 Solar Ingress for Syria

Aries Ingress Damascus 2016

Shown here is the Aries ingress chart, cast for Damascus, which is representative for Syria. With a cardinal sign rising, this chart is valid for 3 months only, which already indicates the unstable situation in this country. Therefore the Cancer-, Libra- and Capricorn ingress charts will have to be taken into consideration, too. The Moon is Lady of the Revolution, highlighting the fact that the focus is on the common people of Syria. All other planets are in the problematic houses 6, 8 and 12, telling a tale of enemies, illness and death.

Jessica Adams: Forget The Polls! How Astrologers Predicted the U.K. Election

Some astrologers, yours truly included, successfully predicted that David Cameron would be re-elected in the 2015 U.K. presidential elections, and serve a second term as prime minister.

The writer, journalist and astrologer, Jessica Adams has written an article about these astrologers and how they correctly predicted the outcome:

Retrograde Motion

Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn will be retrograde at times during 2015.

Mercury Rx

will delight us, as usual, with interrupted communication, malfunction or complete failure of computers and other electronic devices and general uncertainty and confusion concerning any contracts, legal documents or agreements. Mercury will be retrograde in Aquarius between 22 January and 12 February, in Gemini between 20 May and 11 June, in Libra between 18 September and 10 October.

Venus Rx

in Virgo retrograde Venus will test our faithfulness and will also highlight problems first encountered in past relationships. Later on, in Leo, retrograde Venus will increase the urge of those who have been unfaithful, hedonistic or squandering to go return to their old ways. Venus will be retrograde between 1 August and 7 September.

Jupiter Rx

will remind us of his prudent side; with Jupiter’s help we are able to fulfil our potential but in his Rx phase, he demands that we obey the rules, follow our moral guidelines and show kindness and compassion. Jupiter will remain retrograde in Leo until 9 April. Retrograde Jupiter in Leo brings a sober note to our search for inner truth. In this introspective time, we may realise that vanity, negligence and suppression of our emotional life are not helpful if we want to find our true self.

Saturn Rx

in Sagittarius and Scorpio will give us a chance to re-evaluate what has become static and dogmatic in the past. It is likely that any unfinished but forgotten business will make an unexpected reappearance during this time, reminding us to bring old issues to a close. Saturn will be retrograde in Scorpio between 15 March until 3 August.

Out of Bounds

When Planets exceed the 23°27’ area of the Sun’s max declination, north or south, they are called “Out of Bounds.” During these times, the OOB Planets will be out of the Sun’s control; therefore a heightened activity of all themes corresponding with the appropriate planets can be expected.

Mercury will be OOB between: 3 May and 19 May 28 November and 25 December

Venus will be OOB between: 18 April and 1 June

Mars will be OOB between: 6 June and 17 July

Ingress Charts

2015 Solar Ingress for the United Kingdom

Aries Ingress 2015 London Shown here is the Aries ingress chart, cast for London, representing the United Kingdom. With a fixed sign rising, this chart will be valid for the whole of 2015. From the chart above, we can see that Mercury will be the Lord of the Year. Being Lord of the 10th house, he is prominently positioned near the 4th house cusp. He is also debilitated by detriment and fall and square Saturn, the greater malefic. Main themes during this solar year will be matters concerning communal finances and business in general. The ingress chart shows that debilitated Mercury is squaring Saturn in the 1st house. This indicates more financial restrictions and continued economic hardship for most of the population. A detailed analysis of the Aries ingress chart will be posted on my web log in due course.

2015 Solar Ingress for the European Union

Aries Ingress 2015 Brux The Aries ingress chart cast for Brussels and therefore representative for the European Union does not significantly differ from the ingress chart for the United Kingdom. With fixed sign rising, this chart will be valid for the whole of 2015.

2015 Solar Ingress for the United States of America

Aries Ingress 2015 Washington Shown here is the Aries ingress chart, cast for Washington, which is representative for the United States of America. With a common sign rising, this chart is valid for six months. The Libra ingress chart will have to be taken into account thereafter. From the chart above, we can see that  the Sun will be Lord of the Revolution. Bonatti writes about the Sun being Lord of the Revolution in the 7th house, that:

“it signifies contrariety which will happen to the vulgar from noble or great men or kings”. (Bonatti, Book of Astronomy, p960)

A detailed analysis of the Aries and the Libra ingress charts for the United States will be posted on my web log in due course. –

Solar Eclipse 23 October 2014

On 23 October 2014, at 21:56UT, there will be a partial solar eclipse. The Sun and the Moon will be conjunct in 00*24′ Scorpio.

Although only a partial eclipse, this event is of importance, as it will be widely visible from Canada and the USA. The penumbral shadow will first be visible near the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Siberia. Later on, much of North America will be treated to a partial eclipse. The greatest visible eclipse occurs at 21:44UT in Canada, near the Prince of Wales Island, and a sunset eclipse will be visible from the eastern half of the USA and Canada (except for the far northeast).

This eclipse is part of Saros cycle 153, being the 9th eclipse of 70. The series began on 28 July 1870 with a string of 13 partial eclipses.

The map below shows visibility of the eclipse:

The astrological chart, cast for Manila, shows the event:

Solar Eclipse 23 Oct 2014 Manila

In his Annus Tenebrosus, or the Dark Year, the famous 17th century astrologer William Lilly presents a method of eclipse delineation, including an interpretation of the effects of solar and lunar eclipses, occurring in each decanate of the Zodiac. As this solar eclipse takes place in the first decanate of Scorpio, Lilly’s aphorism is as follows:

“… it moves and raises warlick tumults, murthers, dissentions, captivities, and cherishes underhand practices, or plots of Treason.”

If we have a look at the eclipse’s path of angularity, we can see the following:

2014 October Solar Eclipse ASC DC map

The map above shows that the solar eclipse will be of quite immediate importance for the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, and North Korea. Parts of China and Russia may also be affected. The eclipse point will be in the first decanate of Scorpio, suggesting Mars to be the eclipse ruler. Although usually seen as the Lesser Malefic, Mars is essentially dignified by Term rulership, which may lessen his negative impact to a degree. He is also conjunct fixed star Etanin. Lilly calls this “the cloudy star in the eye of the Dragon” and connects it with the danger of “wounds, contentions, or bruisings in the head. He also knows to beware of Guns, Pikes, slings, the kicks of Bulls or Horses, and the deceit of enemies”.

William Lilly also tells us about Mars being Lord of the Eclipse:

“… her generally is the cause of corruption in regard of his too much dryness, and this especially when he is in a fiery Sign. […] he stirs up Wars, Seditions, intestine risings, and tumults, imprisonment, banishment, besieging and taking towns and cities. […] men suddenly arraigned, condemned and beheaded”

In connection with illnesses, he writes to expect:

” … Tertian Fevers, acute diseases, corruption of blood, […] violent, untimely, and the sudden death of young men.”

With the recent flurry of beheadings in connection with the so called new Islamic Caliphate, this could indicate bad news indeed, as we have to take into consideration that this solar eclipse will not only have an immediate effect on the population of the places mentioned above, but could also affect the USA and Canada in a few months’ time.

What also needs to be looked at is the fact that Venus is conjunct the eclipse point. She is essentially debilitated by detriment, peregrine and combust. Being the natural significator of women, I think that we will have to extend Lilly’s prediction, in the way that women may be at a high risk, too.

divider

For readers, interested in the personal implications of this eclipse, it might be of interest what William Lilly has to say:

“… Eclipse is more dangerous or pernitious which shall be in the Horoscope or Ascendant of the birth; or which shall be in the degree Ascending in an Annuall Revolution: it portends unto the Native some ominous and mischievous action as unto his body and also in his vital substance.”

And further on:

“… who had in the Radix of his Nativity either the Sun or the Moon in that degree, or in the degree opposite … or in the like degrees … which signs are in Quadrate aspects to the former, or if the degree Culminating in any man’s Nativity was either [the degree of the eclipse or its opposite or square] or within one degree thereof, the native did suffer more or less by the influence of this Eclips; according to the signification of the House of Heaven, wherein the Sun or the Moon was in at the Birth, and was either well fortified or aspected of the benevolent Planets, or ill aspected, or afflicted of the Malevolents.”

For this particular Solar eclipse that means that people with Scorpio rising or culminating, either in their birth chart or in their solar return chart for 2014/15, will feel the influence stronger than others. Furthermore it should be noted if Sun or Moon are closely conjunct the Ascendant or Midheaven. Should it be the case that one or even more of these factors apply, an in-depth reading of the native’s charts may be necessary to find out which particular areas of life are likely to be affected the most.

2014 Libra Ingress of the Sun for the UK & the USA

On 23rd September 2014 at 02:29UT, the Sun will enter the sign of Libra. As stated in my earlier post about the 2014 Aries ingress (read it here), the ingress charts for the United Kingdom and the United States of America will have to be updated at the time the Sun enters Libra.

United Kingdom

Beginning with the United Kingdom, we see the Libra Ingress chart below:

2014 Libra Ingress London

We remember that Jupiter was the Lord of the Revolution in the 2014 Aries ingress chart. After six months, things have changed and we can see from the chart above that Saturn has now taken over from Jupiter. He will be Lord of the Revolution, or chart ruler, for the next six months.  Although Saturn is generally regarded as the Greater Malefic, he can, under certain circumstances, act in a benefic way. As seen in the chart above, although being peregrine, Saturn is otherwise accidentally well dignified. Saturn being in good condition, Bonatti tells us, signifies:

“… that the rustics will obey their masters or kings and will be humble to them; and the empire or kingdom will be raised up … and its fame and name will be increased.” (Bonatti*, BA p919)

We can also see that Jupiter is squaring Saturn, of which Bonatti tells us that it will:

…  break and abolish half of Saturn’s malice.” (Bonatti, BA p925)

He continues to write about Masha’allah, who said that:

“… if Saturn were direct in an angle [which is the case here], it signifies many rains, and the contentions of the wealthy; and more strongly so, if he were to receive the rulership of Mars and his strength – for it signifies then that the rustics or common people will contend with the king.” (Bonatti, BA p926)

Saturn is conjunct fixed star Zuben Eschamali (also known as North Scale), a sign of good fortune, high ambition, honours, riches, and favourable for gain and domestic matters, according to Vivian Robson’s Fixed Stars & Constellations in Astrology.

The only other planet in an angular house is Mars, in Sagittarius. Mars is not essentially debilitated, and, once again, we see that a malefic planet becomes an accidental benefic by house and sign placement. Bonatti writes:

“… and if he were in the domiciles of Jupiter, it signifies a multitude of substance, and the acquisitions of those doing business.” (Bonatti, BA p949)

United States of America

Shown below is the ingress chart for the United States of America:

2014 Libra Ingress Washington

I propose Mercury to be Lord of the Revolution for the USA. He is in Libra, in the 5th house, which is unfortunately not an ideal placement. Bonatti warns us that Mercury in Libra:

“… signifies powerful and severe winds are going to come in that revolution.” (Bonatti, BA p970)

He also knows that Mercury in the 4th house signifies:

” … exchanges of words between men more so than usual; also contentions and sorrows or griefs that are going to fall between men.” (Bonatti, BA p972)

Looking at Jupiter, who was Lord of the Aries ingress chart, we see that he is essentially dignified by Triplicity and Face. He is located in the 3rd house. Bonatti writes:

“… it signifies good fortune from one brother to another, and between them. And men will rejoice because of their relatives, and especially younger ones, and first or older sisters.” (Bonatti, BA p942)
